Top Stylist Greg James has joined Cardiff hairdresser kamigata to compliment our team of stylists. Greg is an experienced Aveda stylist in both modern and more traditional cuts but in particular, wedding day cuts and hair-up.

Cardiff Life‘s (www.cardifflifemag.co.uk) Kate Authers visited kamigata for a cut and colour makeover. Kate had her hair styled by Hannah Young, her hair coloured by Salon Director Zoë Lapit and her makeup was touched up by beauty therapist Helen Peake. In addition, Kate received the usual compliment of Aveda rituals during her stay including a head and arm massage. An ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles but the practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona .

The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle "chimney", although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.

The treatment is very gentle and relaxing. The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged.

" The mini foot soak that begins this treatment and the chocolate brown blankets that my therapist wraps me up leaves me well and truly relaxed even before the main event. Kamigata tailor make their Aveda Elemental Nature Facials depending on how your skin is feeling on that day, so even if you're a regular you'll find it different each time. After cleansing and toning my face, two separate face masks were applied leaving my dry and dehydrated skin to lap up moisture. After the facial, its time for add-on eye treatment. I'm amazed to hear the cold compresses left on my eyes have been soaked in tea of all things. Not your bog standard PG Tips though but rather Aveda's Comforting Tea, an organic herbal infusion. When drunk it is wonderfully detoxifying, but the licorice root and peppermint make it good for the delicate eye area. Next the eye area is massaged, draining excess fluids and easing out tension.

Immediately afterwards my eyes feel incredibly awake and alive. A few days later and my skin is incredibly soft, smooth and fresh looking and definitely better for the experience"

Our latest discovery - Kamigata is a glorious Aveda Concept Hair and Beauty Salon in Llandaff, Cardiff.

It's just been on TV as part of the Rugby Wives show on S4C, but the real pull is the Aveda Facials: a perfect way to spend a couple of hours! Even Angelina Jolie is a fan of Aveda skincare products....

Kamigata will feature on the BBC in a programme called 'Gwragedd Rygbi' (Rugby Wives) on S4C on 17th March - the programme has subtitles in English. Four rugby wives of Wales and Ireland visit Kamigata to have their hair cut and coloured and have a variety of beauty treatments for each programme. Kamigata was chosen for the high quality of our stylists, colourists and beauticians and the relaxing ambience of the salon.

Rugby Wives is broadcast each Thursday before a Six Nations International weekend between 3rd February and 17th March and all hair and make-up is provided by Kamigata.
